Event Overview

Regardless of how romantic one feels about Valentine’s Day, a clever valentine is always a thrill to receive. Impress friends and coworkers with hand-printed valentines featuring your own design. Students each bring a one-color design that they would like to transform into a stack of greeting cards. Designs can be a black and white drawing, simple text, a .pds or .ai file, or found imagery. Screens will be pre-coated with photographic emulsion. Students will learn how to make their image “print ready”, expose a screen, mix a custom ink color, and register their image onto cards. Students print 20 unique valentines and are encouraged to swap cards with their classmates to bring home a DIY variety pack of cards.

What to Bring

20 blank cards (any color or size is fine), One-color design on a USB drive, CD, or paper.

Minimum age

All ages welcome

What's Provided

Screens, inks, and all printing supplies. Basic white 5×7” flat cards are available for students who do not bring their own folded cards.

Vanessa has practiced printmaking in several studios with different setups, and is grateful for the knowledge she has picked up at each one. While screen printing has become her specialty process, she is driven by experimentation with new techniques and collaborations with artists of diverse backgrounds. This class was a lot of fun. I had never done screenprinting before and enjoyed learning about it, and while we didn't go completely in-depth, it was cool to have a finished product at the end of a single class.
