Event Overview

This is an entry-level class for anyone interested in learning to bake with sourdough in your own kitchen. If you’ve ever wondered what the difference between a starter and a leaven is, thought about how much starter gets thrown away every day, or let your old sourdough starter starve from neglect, this is the class for you.

In this hands-on virtual class, you will learn everything you need to know to feed and maintain a starter, how to mix, knead, and shape bread, how and when to use different kinds of flours, and the best way to bake your loaves at home.

During this class, you'll make a starter, learn how to feed and care for it, and learn how to know when it's ready to use. You'll leave class with a ripe starter and three beautiful loaves of bread, each in a different stage of the process - a loaf you'll make start from scratch, one that will be formed and ready to bake after class, and a loaf of artisan bread that you baked in class.

Prior to class, you'll have access to everything you need to make amazing sourdough during class and at home:

  • Lessons and guidance in beginning a sourdough starter

  • Lessons in everything you need to ensure successful sourdough bread.

  • Ongoing sourdough coaching throughout and beyond the class

  • Recipes, sourdough guide and FAQs

  • The starter instruction and class will be recorded so you can access it anytime.

Please note that you will need to do the pre-class things before class and will have access to all of the materials upon your reservation.

When you purchase a ticket to this class, you'll also receive complimentary access to The Good Food Project's community of like-minded bakers, where you can connect with other bakers, learn new skills, discover baking inspiration on a daily basis, and receive ongoing free coaching via our Kitchen Hours, every Thursday and Sunday.

Ticket cost is per device and is non-refundable but all classes are recorded so you can watch them later if needed.

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST

The Good Food Project's Project Bake is designed to make baking fun and accessible for everyone. Everybody should know how to cook and bake things they enjoy eating and the more things you can cook, the better.

When you come to our classes, come with an open mind. You’ll try some new things, have a fantastic experience and leave feeling like you have gained the knowledge and confidence that will make your next culinary creation extraordinary.

People tell me that the best takeaways from the classes are not the big lessons, they are the tips and ideas that will make your life easier and improve on what you are already doing. Things like the feel of well-kneaded bread, how to substitute ingredients, and knowing what to do when things go sideways.

Join me for a class. We’ll cook up some great flavors and taste some awesome things together, plus I'd love to talk food with you! Hope to see you soon!

This class taught me a lot more than I was able to learn on my own and Chelly provided everything I needed to make it an easy hands-on experience. It was the first time I had done anything virtually, and it worked out great. Would I do it again? Yes!
