96 Have Dabbled
Arts & DIY
Create the look of woven glass with a few fun fusing tricks! In this new Dabble class, you will learn to easily and safely cut and assemble transparent and opaque sheet glass. Create your piece with colorful glass strips, stringers, and noodles that will turn it into a beautiful and textural piece that has depth and textile-like qualities. The pieces will then be slumped (shaped) into a variety of forms to look like fabric. Your pieces will be 5" x 5". All materials and firings are included. No experience needed. Great for a date night or a girls/guys night out! Age 14+
Wear closed-toe shoes and layers (in case it's chilly in the studio). Bring water to drink.
KN95, N95 or KN94 masks are required. I have them for you if you forget (a donation of $2 is greatly appreciated). They aren’t optional. They must be fit snugly over your nose and mouth (no fabric or surgical masks and no gators) during your time in the building and studio. I will ask you to change into one of our masks that fits better if yours keeps falling down or sits low or under your nose. This is for the safety of everyone. Thanks in advance for understanding.
If you have any COVID symptoms please do not come to class. We can reschedule for a later date.

After receiving her BFA from Alfred University in 1992 Leslie Speicher traveled the country finally choosing Seattle, WA as her home. During her seven years there she focused on her glasswork, teaching at Pratt Fine Arts Center and assisting and studying with local and international glass artists. During this time she was a TA and AA at Pilchuck Glass School, Instructor at Urban Glass in Brooklyn, NY and Red Deer College in Alberta, CA. Residencies include Urban Glass, Hastings College and Pratt Fine Arts Center. Leslie has shown her glasswork, sculptures and installations in Seattle, NYC, Miami, Philadelphia and Chicago. Publications include International Glass Art; Richard Yelle, author.
She then decided to return to school to get her Masters so she could teach at the college level. In 2004, she received her MFA from the University of Illinois. Her teaching career took her first to the University of Miami where she taught 3D Design. Leslie then taught at the Cleveland Institute of Art as an Adjunct in the Glass Department before moving to Chicago, IL after her solo show at the Museum of Surgical Science in 2006.
No matter what she is making her aspiration is to create pieces with unique character, which are thought-provoking and visually pleasing. Leslie’s interest in exploring materials leads her to create narratives between design, texture, form and color. Every piece is one-of-a-kind, designed and handcrafted by the artist.
Leslie is the owner of Chicago Glass Collective in Chicago, IL where she also teaches and makes her work.
This class was great! Leslie was a fantastic teacher and brought a lot of energy and enthusiasm to the process. She explained things very simply so those of us without experience could understand, but also gave us a lot of information about the whole process. I’m excited to see my finished product. I had so much fun in this class, I’m already looking for my next class

Not a newby with fused glass, but my first time doing woven. Leslie is terrific and very patient…not to mention a lot of fun.
