Event Overview

Make a beautiful and colorful 5" fused glass Mandala Bowl using a variety of colorful glass frit and a mandala design. The design lines turn to a rich henna color that highlights the lines of the mandala. The colorful back of the bowl looks like stained glass. All materials included and no experience necessary.

All materials are provided. The bowls will be fired and slumped after class and ready two weeks after class. Shipping is available for a fee.

No experience necessary and great for ages 14+.

Ages 14-15 must have an adult present with them for the entire class.

Ages 16+ Parent/Guardian must be present when student (ages 16-17) arrives to sign waiver before class.

Wear closed-toed shoes and bring water to drink.

After receiving her BFA from Alfred University in 1992 Leslie Speicher travelled the country finally choosing Seattle, WA as her home. During her seven years there she focused on her glasswork, teaching at Pratt Fine Arts Center and assisting and studying with local and international glass artists. During this time she was a TA and AA at Pilchuck Glass School, Instructor at Urban Glass in Brooklyn, NY and Red Deer College in Alberta, CA. Residencies include Urban Glass, Hastings College and Pratt Fine Arts Center. Leslie has shown her glasswork, sculptures and installations in Seattle, NYC, Miami, Philadelphia and Chicago. Publications include International Glass Art; Richard Yelle, author.

She then decided to return to school to get her Masters so she could teach at the college level. In 2004, she received her MFA from the University of Illinois. Her teaching career took her first to the University of Miami where she taught 3D Design. Leslie then taught at the Cleveland Institute of Art as an Adjunct in the Glass Department before moving to Chicago, IL after her solo show at the Museum of Surgical Science in 2006.

No matter what she is making her aspiration is to create pieces with unique character, which are thought provoking and visually pleasing. Leslie’s interest in exploring materials leads her to create narratives between design, texture, form and color. Every piece is one-of-a-kind, designed and handcrafted by the artist.

Leslie is the owner of Chicago Glass Collective in Chicago, IL where she also teaches and makes her work.

My husband and I had such a great class with Leslie. She was very easy to follow and once we were all situated, let us have our own time to work on our projects but also checked up on us to make sure we were doing okay and making suggestions and answering questions! We can’t wait to be back for another session with her!

Fused Glass Mandala Bowl class is a fun class! It's a little more intricate than the regular fused glass classes where you are using cut glass pieces. Here you color basically a "tattoo" of a mandala pattern with fritz. These are beautiful. Thankfully I didn't choose a pattern that was too intricate - that takes a lot of concentration but the end pieces are stunning. Give this class a go!

I took my mom to this class and we had a great time!! Class size was small and relaxed. Leslie is a great teacher, very knowledgeable and helpful. I can't wait to see our finished pieces! I will definitely be back for more classes.

I really enjoyed the class! The instructor did a wonderful job explaining the process and was very helpful checking in and assisting each person as needed. I found it to be relaxing as I worked quietly, focused on the details of the project. I can’t wait to pick up the finished product and would be interested in taking more classes similar to this.

Leslie is the most delightful teacher! She was so warm and welcoming, it felt like we were in her home having some laughs while making art. The glass fusing process itself was simple enough but requires some patience and focus--which was the point for me, really!

I really enjoyed this class. It was different and making the mandalas was actually very calming bc you had to focus on your design which was nice. And the teacher was great :)

What a perfect date night we had at the Chicago Glass Collective making Mandala bowls with Leslie. There were 5 of us in the class and we all had a great time making our fused glass bowls. Leslie was patient with all of us and went around giving tips and sharing her extensive knowledge with the class. Leslie gave a great template to follow along to, so even if you are artistically challenged like me, you will be able to make a beautiful piece. Leslie's instructions were clear and easy to follow along to and she has such a great sense of humor and made us laugh all night. I would highly recommend taking this or another class with Leslie!

Class was very fun! Teacher created a great environment for folks that were new. She provided detailed, step by step directions and when i would forget, helped me along the way. You come into the class and she was very prepared having everything out and ready to go for you. She clearly loves her craft, her energy is infectious and made the class fun.

Leslie was an amazing teacher, as usual! The class is all about your creativity, but Leslie is ready to offer guidance when you ask for it. This class is different from other classes I have taken here as it did not involve cutting glass and instead used frit to create the bowls. It was definitely a different way to create with glass. I love taking classes here and am looking forward to returning!

This class was so much fun! The instructor Leslie was very knowledgeable and walked everyone through the process of making beautiful mandala bowls with ease. She also was very willing to offer advice on colors and technique to ensure everyone was satisfied with the final product. And she stayed well past the end time for a few of us slow pokes. I’ll be taking future classes with Leslie and chicago Glass works!

This was my second class at the Chicago Glass Collective with Leslie. She’s such a fun, laid back instructor. The finished product is beautiful and proudly on display at home. Can’t wait to do more with her!
