ABOUT THIS EVENT
Shibori is a Japanese dyeing technique that typically involves folding, twisting or bunching cloth and binding it, to create resist patterns on fabric.
In this workshop, natural dye maven Zaine, the creative force behind Zaine Vaun, will cover the basics of shibori history, tools, and techniques as well as a little about natural dyes.
Using non-toxic, kitchen-friendly turmeric and a variety of methods you will walk away with hands-on experience of making a dye bath, and creating 5 uniquely dyed textiles!
The workshop will provide the necessary items such as dye powder, gloves, tools for binding as well as three 12”x12” squares of test cotton, a kitchen tea towel, and a cotton tote.
You will receive an instruction manual before the workshop, please make sure that you read it carefully.
It is recommended that you have some other things handy to throw in the dye pot, such as old socks or a t-shirt that needs some color, since once you get started it’s hard to stop!
This class is great for beginners who are looking to learn an easy new skill, get creative, and learn about the magic of natural dyes!
