Event Overview

Celebrate our great city by creating your own Chicago flag mosaic! You will spend a relaxing afternoon gluing and grouting your own stained glass mosaic piece. All pieces will be precut or cut on site for you. You will learn some basic mosaic skills in a fun and relaxed environment!

Every student will take home their completed Chicago flag mosaic.

Class is BYOB. Light snacks and drinks will be provided.

Bring a friend and spend some quality time making art!

Norma Rios Sierra

Norma D Rios-Sierra received her Bachelor of Art History from Columbia College Chicago in 2009. She has lived in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, San Diego, California and most recently McAllen, Texas. She was first introduced to stained glass art while working as a translator at a stained glass factory in Mexico. Her work consists mostly of stained glass mosaic featuring bold images inspired by iconic Mexican imagery, textiles and embroidery.

Norma was great! My girlfriends and I had a lot of fun making our very own Chicago flag mosaic. She was a great teacher who was very attentive to our needs. I would definitely recommend this class.

This was a really fun, laid back class. I like that it was in a home studio, which felt more intimate. Not rushed to finish the piece, and felt it was a really good value and take home piece that I will hang up in my home!

Norma's classes are always great! A fun mix of learning new skills, creating and socializing. I recommend her mosaic classes as well as her stained glass classes!

This was a wonderful experience. I didn't introduce myself to the teacher, but I think she was very helpful, patient, helped us get started right away without needing much explanation or prep. I can't believe that in only a few hours, we were able to make something so beautiful! There were lots of types of people there- individuals, couples, friends, and families with kids. Everyone had a productive but still fun and relaxing time. The teacher (I think Norma?) has a studio home that is filled with beautiful, inspiring mosaics that she's created. It's a wonderful space to create.

I saw this class online but it was full. I emailed the instructor to see when the next time it would be offered and she opened up two spots-one for me and one for my daughter. We had a lot of fun and I think what we made was pretty cool considering we aren't very artsy people. The instructor was extremely nice and did everything she could to make us feel welcome and feel like artists. At first, I was a little disappointed to see our Chicago flag was only 5 x7 inches, it never said on the site what size but for some reason, we thought it was bigger. We quickly learned that doing mosaics is time-consuming and were actually so happy it was the size it was. I have a new appreciation for the art. I would highly recommend this class and this instructor.

Love this class!! First time working with mosaics, and Norma makes it very fun and relaxing. She's an awesome teacher and let's you work with your own creativity. Will definitely be taking more classes of hers. I have a new found love for mosaic!

The class was so much fun. My girlfriend and I both created Chicago flags yet both look different. The instructor was so helpful and gave us a lot of freedom to really create something personally expressive. PS - Choose the black grout. ;)

We had an excellent class with Norma! She is an awesome teacher, was so patient and helpful, and really makes it fun for anybody to jump into mosaics as a beginner or higher level. She even opened up a new class time when we couldn't make any of the existing ones work. Thanks, Norma!!
