Event Overview

Printmaking is a great way to make multiple copies of a drawing. Everything from posters to greeting cards can be printed by hand. But many printmaking techniques are complicated, time-consuming and expensive for beginners....

Enter Printmaking with Fun Foam: A simple and inexpensive technique! Artist Dean Johnson demonstrates the process, then guides students step-by-step as they make their own Fun Foam prints. Everything you need to make a Fun Foam print is provided.

This is the ground floor for Printmaking with Fun Foam. No experience is necessary, but you will walk away with the skills to make more prints at home. You will understand print reversal, the relationship of negative space to your printing surface, and the importance of an even ink application. Once you have this knowledge, the printmaking possibilities will be endless....

Dean Johnson studied Fine Arts at Columbia College Chicago, where he earned his Bachelor Degree. Since then, he has built Dean Johnson Art Studio into a business. He has completed numerous commissions, including promotional images for theater companies TUTA and Darknight Theatrical Productions; flyers and postcards for rock band Arch Visceral Parlor and DJ Elle Madelyn; and illustrations for author John Wawrzaszek.

For Dean, translating skills from one medium to another is a natural evolution. For example, his printmaking skills are built on a solid foundation of drawing. This is why he loves teaching artists new mediums -- once they know the basics, a new medium should come naturally. They just need someone to explain the new medium step-by-step, so that they can apply their pre-existing skill set to it. Dean loves to be that voice of experience.
