Event Overview

We have a Tarot class offered twice monthly, from 7-9pm at Sideshow Gallery, Chicago! It's the same class, but offered on two dates - the first Thursday of the month as well as the Wednesday preceding it.

The class is taught by Rebecca (Laughing Eye Weeping Eye Tarot: http://rebeccaschoenecker.com/tarot.html). It is all about learning the Tarot in a low-pressure environment.

At the beginning of class, we briefly discuss the basics of the Tarot deck, with the rest of the first hour devoted to instruction and collaborative dialogue. Each month's class is focused on a different aspect of Tarot; mythology and symbolic associations with the Tarot card images are often explored. The second hour of class is devoted to practicing Tarot reading, asking questions, and learning from each other in a collaborative way.

While all levels of experience are welcome, don't attend hoping to learn the Tarot in one night - the Tarot is one complex deck of amazing, but one that takes a lot of time to learn! This class is a collaborative learning group, with each month focusing on one aspect of the Tarot that will you help you learn more about the deck. It's definitely a community vibe here; come with questions, an open mind, and an interest in Tarot!

Bring: Your own Tarot deck, and a notebook (optional). Pick this stuff up in person at the Sideshow Gallery.

I have been teaching Tarot at Sideshow Gallery for the last year! I am a Tarot reader, Artist, and Musician living and working in Chicago. In 2012, I co-created my music label Hairy Spider Legs, with my partner Patrick Holbrook. Our music label releases a variety of experimental vinyl, tape, and CD albums by contemporary musicians. We promote and distribute our records worldwide. My other project is called Laughing Eye Weeping Eye, and this is me. As Laughing Eye Weeping Eye, I read Tarot from my own Tarot decks and write/perform music with Patrick Holbrook. Laughing Eye Weeping Eye reads Tarot and performs nationally, touring off and on throughout the year. My handmade Tarot decks and goods are also available within Chicago and through my online store, the Three Fates Mystic Shop. In addition to working in these realms, I continue to create art as an animator, painter, and illustrator. Previously, I worked at the School of the Art Institute as an Academic Advisor, where I also completed my graduate studies in 2008. It’s been a wild and wonderful journey, and I am so happy with where I’ve ended up!

I gotta admit, I had my doubts walking in, but I loved the class. The venue was a little snug (evidently, a lot more people showed up than what was expected - but that's a good problem to have!), but the instructor had great teaching methodology, the curriculum seemed good for both a novice an an experienced tarot reader, and it was an extremely collaborative environment. I'll be back!
