Event Overview

It's time to get thrifty!

Your assignment for this class:

1. Go visit your nearest thrift store (Salvation Army, Savers, Goodwill, independent/church charity thrift shop) and purchase a faaaabulous outfit for yourself. It's okay if it's a little big, or too long, outdated, or even a little homely. (Or if you're up to it, find the baddest dog on the racks and let's see if we can't pretty it up. I love a challenge!)

2. Give yourself permission to feel good about purchasing from a charity and supporting something good in this crazy world.

3. Come to class and together, we'll fix that ensemble up.

Come and learn how to take clothes from drab to fab, loose to fitted, and underrated to updated. This class will cover the following:
- explore how to make your old clothes look new
- add some lovely flourishes to tired outfits with trims, embellishments, and special appliques
- fix up sagging seams
- hem up those lagging pants (including the ever-elusive 'perfect hem' for jeans. It's easier than it looks, trust me.)
- move that skirt to new heights and show off your gams

Have some fun fixing up thrift store finds and join in the adventure of alterations. This class would be fun for an intermediate level sewer. Some experience with needle and thread will take you far in this engaging, informative class. A sewing machine will be discussed, but most of the alterations we will explore can be done by hand. If you have a sewing machine you'd prefer to bring/use, please contact the instructor as that may be an option.

Fantastic!! I would love more of these classes with this teacher. Perhaps a class where you learn how to use a pattern to make clothing. This was ideal and so well taught. I learned a ton and ended up successfully altering a dress that I had never worn previously because of the fit. I have now worn the dress several times and have gotten compliments each time.
