Event Overview

Monotype is a versatile approach that can combine an inked plate with painting, drawing, and collage, to create unique images. Unlike most print techniques that produce multiples, monotype is a process that creates single, one-of-a-kind artworks.

This Process Spotlight is a great way to get acquainted with Campfire Printing Press while exploring an approachable process. We’ll demonstrate how to combine ink and found materials on plexiglass under pressure to produce a range of aesthetic possibilities.

After the basics are introduced, you’ll choose your own adventure and experiment with additive and subtractive printing, painterly approaches, stencil-based processes, and the use of ghost prints. As prints roll through the press, we will share results, ask questions, and learn from each other’s experiments.

8x10” plexiglass plates, paper, ink, and other found materials will be available to participants in this Spotlight. Participants are also encouraged to bring their own thin and flexible materials (string, fabrics, etc.) to use for collage and stencils.

5pm - Doors open
5:30-9pm - Demo followed by hands-on project
