Event Overview

Have a good idea of what kinds of pictures you love, but just can't always make them happen? Find yourself frustrated and confused when photos don't turn out the way that you expect them to? Perplexed by all of the letters and dials on your camera, and don't really want to read the manual to figure it out?

This class will cover the basics of exposure - how to know what a proper exposure looks like, what the various modes on your camera mean and what they're useful for. What the terms ISO, Aperture, and shutter speed mean, how they relate, and how you can use them to make your vision a reality, or simply have the control to capture what you see. We'll also have a brief discussion about what makes a good photo and what makes a great photo and some brief photo history trivia!

Students will leave with a clear understanding of the basics of their camera functions and the next steps they can take to improve their photo skills and hopefully some curiosity that insights further study into the history of photography!

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST

Krysta has a degree from Columbia College Chicago in photography - has been photographing for 10 years, and has been delving into various art forms her entire life. She is passionate about photography and doesn't think you need a formal education to be a better photographer. However, Krysta benefited A LOT from formal education, and she'd love to pass on her expertise in a casual, but informative environment. She is excited to share her knowledge about photography, but also give insight into the creative process.

This is a great forum to learn the ins and outs of using Manual mode and to ask questions to someone who knows what they're actually talking about. :)

Krysta was very nice and although I did learn a few new things, I would have liked if it would have lasted the full 2 hours.

    From Teacher:

Thanks for the feedback! Most everyone came back and chatted about the photos they took on their own time. I'm sorry if I missed you guys! But I agree, a shorter, less expensive class makes more sense for the amount of material I have to cover.

I wish the class was more structured. It would have been more efficient to teach people more about cameras and how to adjust the various settings.
