Event Overview

The Tunnel Book structure was inspired by Victorian Peep Shows and each one is a sequence of layers that when viewed through a “peep hole” in the front of the book create a scene that recedes into space.

Students must come to class with a scene in mind and may bring photographs, drawings, or other materials that can be used to create this scene. We will create these scenes as tunnel books.

Students will learn image transfer techniques as well as how to lay out their scene so it builds upon itself and becomes a complete self contained vignette. Tunnel books are sculptural books and are great projects for anyone to try.

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST

Though she has a BFA in Painting, Greta Bach now considers herself more of a book artist than a painter. Book art opened up a whole new world for Greta and though she still paints occasionally, she is much more excited by what she can do with book art. It feels much more natural to communicate though image and text, and the wonderful thing about making books is that almost all the work is interactive and an artist can really engage the viewer. So, Greta is now pursuing an MFA in Book & Paper Arts at Columbia College Chicago with an expected graduation date of May 2014.
