Event Overview

Learn the fundamentals of glass torchwork with Firebird Community Arts and leave with two pieces you made yourself: a pendant and a marble.

There's something almost meditative about working at the torch — watching a cold glass rod soften, glow, and become moldable under your own hands. In this beginner-friendly session, you'll get one-on-one attention in a small group setting (never more than four people) as you learn the core techniques of flameworking: heating glass to the right consistency, shaping it with gravity and simple tools, and building up layers of color.

You don't need any prior experience. We'll start with torch safety and the basics of how glass behaves under heat, then move straight into hands-on practice. By the end of the class, you'll have crafted a wearable glass pendant and a hand-shaped marble — two small, permanent souvenirs of your first time working with fire and glass.

What you'll make: One glass pendant and One glass marble

What's included: all glass, tools, and torch time; step-by-step instruction from an experienced flameworker; safety briefing

Good to know:

• No experience necessary — this class is designed for first-timers


• Wear closed-toe shoes and avoid synthetic fabrics (no fleece or spandex) near the torch


• Long hair should be tied back


• Finished pieces need time to cool/anneal before pickup — but can be picked up the next day or shipping can be coordinated for a fee. Glass projects not picked up withing 30 days will be recycled.

What to Bring

Please wear natural fiber clothes (like cotton, linen, and wool) and closed-toed shoes.
Please note that your glass projects will not be available to take home the day of your workshop. You will be informed about pickup days/times and your projects must be picked up within 30 days or they will be recycled. Shipping is available for our out-of-town creators. This can be coordinated and paid for at your class!

Please Note

This experience has a minimum of 2 students required to go forward. You'll be notified if it is below minimum 7 days in advance. If the minimum is not met 24 hours before the event, you’ll have the option to pay the difference for a private event amount, transfer to another date or Dabble experience, or receive a refund.
