Event Overview

Explore sumi-e, the art of Japanese ink painting. Beginners will learn to use traditional equipment and techniques used to paint classical nature subjects such as bamboo, chrysanthemums, and plums in this hands-on workshop.


Supplies for Sumi-e
1 Ink Stick and an Ink Stone or 1 Bottle Japanese Black Ink
1 Medium Japanese Brush
1 Medium Pad Rice Paper (Hosho) 9″x 12″

What to Bring

Students will need ink and a pad of rice paper, some will be available for purchase in class.

Minimum age

All ages welcome

What's Provided

The proper calligraphy brush will be provided for use in class.

    I had a great time! It was a really fun class, and the teacher was very kind and knowledgeable. She taught several different strokes and made it look easy (it's not). I learned a lot! I would definitely recommend this class!
