Event Overview

Also known as "Not Your Mama's Writing Class: How to Break Into Blogging and Write for an Information-Hungry, Attention-Weary Audience," this class dives head-first into the content of successful blog posts and helps students build an initial understanding of the differences between writing for online media in relation to traditional print.

Nowadays, everyone (and their mama) has a blog. It strengthens your professional reputation, opens discussion and builds community. This course is geared toward individuals looking to start a new blog or in the early stages of blogging and is heavily based in collaboration and discussion. Students will learn how a blog post is crafted, what elements make blog posts particularly excellent, and, most importantly, what should be left out in order to captivate readers, build a following and create a blogging persona.

The key to great blogging is practice, so students will be expected to come to the class with an idea of an article they would like to write, and will leave class with a draft of that article ready to go for a web audience, as well as deeper insight into the world of blogging and how to meet the needs of today's multitasking, digital reader. Because of its hands-on nature, the group size will be limited to 8 students only.

This class is great for a range of people. I have started my own blog already but there were a few people who had yet to begin - this class was perfect for both sets of people.
