Shruthi Mukund

Craig Claiborne, an American restaurant critic, food journalist and book author once said “Cooking is at once child’s play and adult joy. And cooking done with care is an act of love.”
My name is Shruthi Mukund and I’ve always been a gastronome, which I attribute to my parent’s passion for food. My mom’s passion to cook various dishes and my dad’s to relish it. My dad has another special interest to look up recipes for my mom to try out new versions of the same dish and he emails those recipes to my sister and me in the hope we will make it too! My mom loves to cook and feed people! Her day begins with a plan of what to cook and ends with a plan of what to cook for the next day. My mother’s mother always had extra food in her kitchen even now she has extra bananas and candy in her room to distribute to the kids. My father’s mother always made our favorites when we visited as kids; bondas – potato fritters and sajige – sweetened semolina. They never eat alone!
I have always felt loved when my mom or my grandmas cooked for me and made me my favorites. Whatever vegetable or fruit was in season we eat plentiful and finally were ready to move on to the next one! Very much like the four seasons here in the East Coast!
My husband loves simple home made food and waits to come back home from his travels to eat my cooking (at least thats what I think). I love cooking with and for friends and family and believe that through food I get to share a part of myself and where I come from and show I care!
Come join me in my kitchen as I explore recipes and cook together!
I’m a mom of two girls, arts manager, Indian Classical dancer and now starting a cooking love affair
