Rosey Merkin

Rosey Merkin is a Glass Artist and Teacher in Chicagoland. With 15+ years of experience, Rosey has worked in schools, public, and private studios. She does not just make Art and teach people how to make Art. She takes on roles similar to construction workers or therapists. Most people do not realize Glass Artists build and maintain their equipment, tools, ovens, and furnaces. There is an incredible amount of behind-the-scenes work that goes into helping people enjoy working with molten glass.

Most of my hot glass classes happen in the East Garfield Park Neighborhood or the Humboldt Park Neighborhood. Both locations are near the highway with ample parking and near public transportation. Since I do not work for my venues, and since some of my venues are also residential, the exact location of the class will be messaged to you within 24 hours of the actual class time. This was an amazing experience. Rosey is a great teacher and clearly a very experienced and talented artist. My stepson and I registered for the class with zero prior experience working with hot glass and no idea what to expect. Rosey showed us exactly what to do and then let us dive in, while she provided helpful guidance and feedback along the way. The experience felt simultaneously thrilling ("I'm melting glass with a torch right now") and very safe, because of Rosey's calm, confident guidance. We walked away with two pendants we absolutely love – plus the demo piece – and can't stop showing off and bragging about.

My friend and I went to this class and had a fantastic time! We got to choose what we wanted to make (I chose pumpkin and my friend made a tomato), our colors, and then Rosey laid out everything. We each got to help heat the glass, add the color, blow up the glass, shape it, paddle it, and instruct Rosey on how we wanted the finishing touches. We probably did about 50% of the work. Rosey warned us that our pieces might not look exactly how we wanted (changes in colors, cracks, etc.), but we were both thrilled with our results as we picked up our pieces the next evening!

When I travel for business and know that I will have some free time, I often look for interesting experiences. I was glad to discover Dabble as a way to support that habit.

I took some glassblowing classes at home starting 20 years ago and have managed to take a few more on trips to different cites.

Rosey Merkin is a good teacher. I brought two friends who were new to glassblowing and she explained things clearly to all of us. She was patient and clear with her directions. We were sharing the studio space with others and she made sure that we understood when to stay out of the way.

All three of us enjoyed the lesson and are looking forward to seeing our finished projects.

I was careful to not get ahead of myself simply because I had some prior experience and Rosey was willing to work with me on a slightly more advanced second piece. I appreciate that very much.

I get to Chicago on business every few years at least and will keep Dabble and Rosey in mind on future trips.

    I wholeheartedly recommend her class.

We loved our glassblowing class with Rosey and will be taking more! She was very patient and kind and the experience was very cool. For future students just know the location is in a grey warehouse type building, you must ring the buzzer outside to open the gated parking lot attached. Also this is an urban location for those visiting from the suburbs. Grateful for a parking lot.

She made what could be an intimidating process very clear and doable by letting us know the next steps to expect, what adjustments we need to make, what NOT to do, etc. We were each able to make 2 items with Rosey and also take home her demo project. This is such a unique opportunity to create art - I would encourage anyone to give it a try!

My husband and I went to this Glassblowing class that could have up to 4 people. While 4 people registered the other two were a little late, and the instructor was really great about letting us get started right away. In fact, they ended up dividing the class so that we basically took the first half and the other couple took the second half (but learned by watching the end of what we were doing). This took some flexibility on the instructors part and I appreciate that they made it work. Also, the instruction was really clear and easy to follow, the activity was fun, and we ended up with a really nice paperweight to show for our efforts (well, we each made one). Keep in mind, the glass will take time to cool, so you won't be walking out with what you make but will want to either pick it up or have it shipped to you. All in all, a great experience and one we wouldn't mind repeating & have recommended to friends.

My wife had been wanting to try glass blowing for a long time and therefore the expectations were high. Rosey was an outstanding teacher, by chance our workshop ended up being just ourselves and Rosey which made the experience even more memorable.

The sessions started with Rosey giving us an overview of glassblowing and demonstration of the item we had selected to make. When it came to our turn to create our glass pieces Rosey struck the perfect balance of giving us a feeling on control and independence without ever leaving us feeling worried or unsafe.

This was by far more involved and interesting than other glass blowing courses people we know have undertaken and it is all down to our wonderful instructor.

This would be great idea for a girls' night, birthday party, or if you just need an excuse to have fun doing something slightly out of the ordinary.

Rosey is an EXTREMELY talented and personable person. She walks you through glass blowing step by step and makes sure you feel comfortable with scolding hot materials. She helps you learn the trade from its origin, right down to the nit and grit of hands on glass blowing. Rosey helped me make a stunning gift that I know will be absolutely perfect for my Fathers birthday. If you have any doubts, you shouldnt.

Rosey was super awesome. She accommodated our group very well even though we went over capacity. she even stayed for extra time so we could finish an extra glass item. She was very prompt in responding via text. I highly recommend this class, it was so fun and the final glass piece is something I'll cherish forever.

I booked this class to surprise my fiancee with something cool to do for his birthday, and Ms. Merkin did not disappoint! We had so much fun learning the techniques and some of the history of glass blowing. It was an awesome experience and we will be doing it again!

Had an informative one-on-one class and created some one of a kind treasures. A painless introduction for anyone interested in learning to make glass beads.

Man, I LOVED this class! My boyfriend and I took a private class with Rosey and learned how to make double-walled bowls (we made 2!) and a paperweight. I have never had an experience like this. Rosey dug right in with us and taught us all the proper safety and protocol along the way. She has an enormous amount of skill and did a great job gently directing us so that our projects turned out nicely. I will definitely be back!

What a fun time! I bought this for my mom for a fun mother's day outing together. We got to make our own bowl or vase with Rosey's oversight and incredible guidance. It was a once in a lifetime experience, for sure!

Rosey was incredible and so informative. Above and beyond that, she was so accommodating and wanted us to walk away with such a positive first experience at glassblowing. Thank you to Rosey for being so great throughout the whole process!
