AnaHoops

I grew up in Chicago and studied interior architecture and design at Columbia College. I can nerd out about places and spaces but hula hooping will always be my first love. Over the course of the past ten years I’ve come to view it as an overall daily practice and as a teacher here on Dabble, I wish to share the many different ways hula hooping fosters movement, dance and personal expression.

What a great afternoon! We were in the park and had a great experience learning to hoop. I had no idea what to expect, but it was a blast!

Ana was so much fun while making something I had never done before feel really accessible. As someone who's not terribly coordinated, I actually made real progress--learned the coolest tricks!--over two hours, and she even choreographed a slick routine and gave me a handmade book at the end. She's so free and easygoing but clearly a master of her craft, and I'll never look at a hoola hoop without a certain amount of awe again. A totally positive way to spend a Saturday afternoon!

I had such an excellent day learning to hoop with Ana! She’s incredibly knowledgable in her skill while making it completely approachable for a beginner like myself. I really wasn’t sure id be able to do any “real moves” but I learned how to do isolations, cowgirl lasso, and different arm variations. She brought music, and once I got some moves down it felt so good to flow and move with the music. Its actually a really good exercise for the mind regarding coordination, and it felt really good to open up my body in that way. Im really excited to get/make a hoop for myself. Ana even gave me a little booklet (that she made) breaking down different moves as well as some really helpful links for hoops and online tutorials. Such a nice touch. Thank you Ana :)
