Event Overview

This is our pickup winding class, where you get to hand wind and pot your very own set of pickups.

In this class, we will have a discussion about what pickups are, how they work and what to know when buying or making a set of pickups.

We will cover everything from, "What is 60 cycle hum?" to "What is series/parallel?". We will explain common pickup terms like, "resonate peak" and "coil resistance", and follow that with a quick demonstration on pickup winding. Then with your new gained knowledge, you get to wind your own set of pickups!

Classes are BYOB!

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST

My name is Kevin Caton.

I build Caton Guitars in Chicago IL. I have been a professional Luthier for 20 years. I spent several years doing repair part time before deciding to attend the Roberto-Venn School of Luthier in Phoenix AZ in 2006. I then worked for Chicago based boutique bass manufacturer Lakland Basses, for nearly 10 years, and was the shop supervisor for part of my time with them. I currently own a repair/restoration/custom build store in Logan Square, where I do repairs and build custom instruments.
