Personal Finance and Budgeting: Talking About the Stuff You Normally Ignore, Learning the Stuff You Should Have Learned Before You Became an Adult But Somehow Never Did

Do you choose not to think about your finances in order to avoid the possibility of discovering that you have a problem?

Do you default to assessing your financial health by a metric as simple as “I didn’t overdraft my checking account this month!”

Have you ever convinced yourself that in order to take control of your finances that you’d need a thorough understanding of mutual funds, ETFs, and tax loss harvesting?

Do you avoid making long-term life goals because you’re not sure you’re ready to begin laying the financial groundwork now for such far-off goals?

It’s hard to think about, deal with, and relate to money. But, of course, the answer isn’t to ignore it. This class is a safe, nonjudgmental opportunity to explore the psychology of personal finance and to learn simple strategies and the best tools to take control of your financial life.

What To Bring: Bring paper and pen, and/or a laptop for taking notes. Also, feel free to bring food and drink to eat during class.

If you are interested in more advanced saving and investing strategies—such as active vs passive investing, Roth conversion ladders, and safe withdrawal rates in retirement—then keep your eyes peeled for future TeamPete offerings!
