Event Overview

Would you like to learn a few dance steps, accompanied by recordings of fabulous percussion music of the world, in a non-judgmental, body-positive environment? Then come to a dabble class with Monica to get an introduction to American Tribal Style Bellydance!

In this class, you will learn smooth slow moves, and energetic fast steps, all with a foundation of regal posture and carriage. Additionally, you will get a resource sheet about costuming, zills, music, and local instructors. Come dance!

Please note that anyone who demonstrates a purposely negative attitude toward others or their bodies will have to leave.

Monica is a professional musician, teacher, and dancer with 26 years of performance, education, and collaboration. She has studied flute, music theory, and musicology and was awarded a Fulbright to research 18th century secular music in Germany. She performs with modern and historically-informed chamber music ensembles, dances with an ATS troupe called Dance As a Second Language, and enjoys participating in community drum circles. As a person of size, she advocates for health and enjoyment of people of all ages and sizes in dance. She has her General Skills Certification from Carolena Nericcio, the founder of ATS®. In addition to expanding her studio for flute, fife, recorder, and keyboard instruction, Monica would like to spread the knowledge she’s gathering from the Institute for Arts Entrepreneurship and to connect people via music, art, dance, and other creative pursuits.
