Event Overview

Come explore the craziness in your brain-space through creative writing!! Not a writer? Don't know if you will "come up with anything good"?? NO WORRIES. In Rooted's judgment-free studio space, a trained facilitator will guide you through fun and easy exercises and prompts that will stimulate your imagination and propel you into expressing through fantasy. Not to mention, at Rooted, you never have to share your story. It's all yours to do with as you please - So you can rip it to shreds or add it to that secret novel you've been typing away ;)

What to expect in the session?

This session includes a simple icebreaker to get everyone comfortable, and then participants will be led through simple writing prompts and exercises meant to guide you into creating a creative piece of writing. There is no wrong or right way to create at Rooted, so there will be no critique circles. Instead participants will internalize their own experience through journaling and then connect with their fellow writers by sharing whatever they are impelled to share.

Our facilitators are skilled at providing tools that keep this session approachable without worry of skill level while still allowing creativity and self-expression to shine through.

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST

Aliza Roth is a dancer, teacher, yoga instructor, and aspiring dance/movement therapist. After recently graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a B.S. in Dance and a Certificate in Business, she will bring to Rooted Center her passion for and knowledge of movement as a vehicle for creative expression and emotional healing. Her recent move to Chicago is the beginning of what she hopes to be a fulfilling teaching career and a life surrounded by art. Aliza belongs at Rooted. Through mindfulness meditation and yoga, she has found a way to bring principles of non-judgment, awareness and acceptance into her life and relationships. Aliza brings this outlook to Rooted and hopes to inspire as many people as possible to let go of what they do not need – to live in the present moment, to treat themselves with loving kindness, and to share their humanity with others.

Rooted is a true find if you are looking for a place to open up and reconnect with your creative side. The facility is beautiful, warm, welcoming and immediately made me feel like I was in a place where I could explore and expand my ideas for writing and creating. The other people in the class were wonderful. Freddy who led our session made it fun safe and interesting to work on our writing. Can't wait to try another class at Rooted!

What a great way to spend a Friday evening, meeting new people and exercising my mind. I truly felt like my brain had just done a yoga class. :)
I'll be back for sure for some more brain yoga!

Such a great class, it really is meant to get your creative juices flowing. No judgment, no critique, more to just learn about yourself and what you are capable of. Positive experience all around. I will be going back.
