Event Overview

Communicating ideas, be it a business plan or a story, is more effectively done with images. When we're learning, using images helps us remember faster and understand more deeply.

This introductory class will introduce you to many styles of sketchnoting, the reasons it works, and get you started developing a repertoire and style of your own. This is a hands on class, tailored to the participants, and open to anyone from professional illustrator to those who haven't used a pencil or marker for anything except underlining in years.

You'll walk out having learned how to draw a dinosaur, how to use lettering to enhance ideas, and how to triage all the crazy stuff a speaker is saying so you have time to get it on the page!

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST

Alexis is a professional sketchnoter and the pencil behind GraphiteMind. She specializes in documenting technology conferences, bringing humor and color to the driest topics.

Her work has been featured in "The Sketchnote Handbook" by Mike Rohde, and on technology sites across the web. She has been teaching sketchnotes, infographics and UX in SF and NYC, and gives talks on visual thinking and the ties between metaphor and memory.

When she's not sketching up a storm she works as an applied anthropologist [User Experience Research / Strategy / Design] based in Brooklyn, NY.

Alexis likes bicycles, has a collection of things washed up on the beach, and prefers her coffee black.
