Event Overview

Learn how to make your own lip balm & bath bombs in this hands-on class!

Lip Balm:

Make your own creamy lip balms with a tried-and-true recipe using 100% natural ingredients, including beeswax and other moisturizing oils & butters.  Customize your lip balms with the essential oils of your choice.

We'll discuss the materials & ingredients needed and where to get them; how to adjust the recipe if desired; and how to safely work with & choose essential oils.

Then you'll make the only lip balm you'll ever want to use again! ...and with no harmful ingredients.  You'll go home with 5 tubes and a thorough, detailed instructional handout, including the ingredients needed/recipe, materials/equipment & suppliers.

Bath Bombs (aka shower tabs, bath fizzies):

Learn how to make your own bath bombs using natural ingredients like baking soda and epsom salt, which is great for all skin types, removes toxins, reduces muscle tension, improves blood circulation and relieves pain & cramps.  You'll be able to customize your bath bombs with the natural colorant & essential oil of your choice in the silicone mold of your choice.

We'll discuss the chemical reaction that creates the "fizz;" the materials & ingredients needed and where to get them; how to work with colorants; how to fix batches that are too dry or too wet (bath bombs are not difficult to make, but the right balance of dry to wet ingredients is needed).

You'll go home with 6 bath bombs in a reusable silicone mold and a thorough, detailed instructional handout, including ingredients needed/recipe and a list of materials/equipment & online suppliers.

Everything is provided in the class, as well as some snacks & tea.  This class lasts about 1.5 hours & is available for up to 3 people.

What makes Lindsay's DIY (Do-It-Yourself) classes different?

Much more goes into making natural, personal care products than you might think.  It's a science!  So it is very important that you understand why you are doing something, not just how to do something.  Each class begins with discussing the science behind making the product, why certain ingredients are needed & formulating recipes, which is often the hardest part.  Then it's time for the hands-on part, making the product with me as your guide.  My goals are for you to have fun learning something new & making your product, and that you leave the class with a solid, knowledge foundation that you can build upon.

MORE ABOUT YOUR HOST

My Soap Making & Teaching Background: I have been making & learning about natural, body-care products since 2012, when I took my first soap-making class with my sister-in-law in Quincy, Massachusetts. It was so fun that I immediately moved on to lotion, candles, bath bombs & more! I had been a teacher long before learning how to make natural products though, so when I moved to San Francisco in 2013, I decided to mesh my 2 specialty areas and open Blue Dot Organics. I have always taught in a small-group setting ever since I graduated with a Bachelor's in Education in 2006, but I prefer one-on-one, private lessons for a more personal experience and so you can get the most out of the class! I hope to meet you soon!
