Event Overview

Welcome to an introductory class for Shibori dyeing.  Shibori, or resist dyeing, is a Japanese dyeing technique that typically involves folding, twisting and/or bunching cloth and binding it, then dyeing it. The way the fabric is folded and bound creates a distinct repetitive pattern or one of random patterns.  In this introductory class you will experience folding or tying and binding a silk scarf and an item of your choice.  You may even choose to hand sew as your binding technique of choice.  This will be a light hearted and fun opportunity to create both wearable art and functional art.

All supplies are provided except for the item you choose to bring.  Suggestions for items to bring include a light colored or white t-shirt, dinner napkins or other items made of natural fabric, cotton, silk or linen.  I like to look for items in my closet or at the closest used clothing store.

Remember, you will leave this class with a completed dyed silk scarf and the item of your choice to bring to the class.

Please bring your drink of choice and creative spirit.
