Theraputic Group: How Philosophoy Can Improve Our Mental Well-being


At times it is personal philsophical problems we struggle with, which negatively impact our mental health. This 2 week course does not require you to have any foundation knowledge in philosophy, but does require a commitment to exploration and compassion towards your peers. The curriculum is structured so that the group explores how to use philosophy to manage life's problems. Specifically, the group will discover how to manage relationships, disentangle ethical dilemmas, and find meaning and purpose in their daily lives. 


Within each of the 2 sessions, groups members will better understand their personal philsoophies and how that impacts their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Better understanding this will allow them to use their personal philosophies as another tool in their toolbox towards emotional and mental well-being. 


WEEK 1 May 13th 3:00pm-5:00pm : PEACE in Your Time: 5 Steps to Managing Problems Philsophically 


 


WEEK 2 May 20th 3:00pm-5:00pm: Finding Meaning and Purpose


 


For adults who wish to explore their personal philosophies and how philosophy can be used to better their mental health.

Leigh Ann has many years of experience working with children, families, and adults suffering from severe and persistent mental illnesses. One of her passions is facilitating therapeutic groups and watching the healing power which exists within numbers. She believes peer support is the greatest gift we can ever give to one another. Leigh Ann has a history of working with individuals experiencing mood disorders, schizophrenia, and substance abuse. However, she also enjoys working with people who wish to further understand their existence, values, and personal philosophies.

You are always the expert in your life. Therefore, as a counselor, I will meet you where you are at and walk along side of you. A sincere approach with genuine compassion is my upmost priority when working with groups or individuals. I practice from strength-based approaches, such as motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy. I also believe that exploring past and present attachments with others, can help understand our current behavioral patterns. Life is a journey, and it would be my privilege to be a part of yours.
