Event Overview

This is a 3 hour (approximately), hand-lettering class for beginners, where you will learn the basics of hand lettering. You will learn to distinguish some of the common fonts, and some good typographic practices. Eventually we will pick a phrase or a quote and work on making it look pretty. Once we have something we like, we will get to inking the final piece!

Please see the materials that you are required to bring. In case you are not clear about what kind of pens I am talking about, feel free to send me a message for details. I strongly advise you bring your own pens, but I will also have a few pens with me just in case you are not sure what to buy.
A couple of good starter 6-pen sets are:
Sakura 6-Piece Pigma Micron Ink Pen Set, Black
Or,
Staedtler Pigment Liner Set of 6 Liners, Black

What you will take away: Confidence to start practicing on your own, an idea of what tools to start with, some terminology, a basic idea of good typographic practices, a vision for your future hand-lettering goals.

What to Bring

Pencil. Eraser, Ruler. Pigment pens (Staedtler or Microns found in Staples, Michaels or online). A good starter pack is a 6-piece set (please see above).

Minimum age

All ages welcome

What's Provided

Papers for practice. A small booklet on the basics of hand-lettering. I will have some pens/pencils/erasers with me that you can borrow in case you don't bring your own (although I strongly advise you do).

Great fun and learned quite a lot!! The teacher had wonderful file-full handouts, that included her own book of hand lettering!

I thought Mahlia did a wonderful job explaining and giving feedback in this class. Especially considering she'd never taught before. If there's a part II I'd take it.
