Event Overview

Everyone has a story to tell. How to tell it—that’s the hard part. Whether you are a beginner starting from scratch or well into a piece of work, this comprehensive workshop aims at giving students the tools necessary to help channel their voices through the written word.

We’ll look at elements of craft such as character development (who are these people anyway?), plot (what happens?), theme (who cares?), and voice (who are you?) to help focus the vision of your story. But what if you don’t have a specific story in mind? No problem! We’ll practice in-class writing exercises to jump start your writing flow and cultivate your ideas, in addition to discussing the ups-and-downs of the creative writing process.

You’ll leave with a fresh understanding of what you want to say, the tools to help you say it, and a well-rounded foundation that will support your writing process.

I thought the lesson plan was well put together, executed, and the exercises to be quite helpful. Rekindled with tools I have neglected, forgotten over the years. Look forward to the next one!

Taylor did a great job providing guidance, leading interactive discussion and leaving us all with a sense for how we can improve our own writing. It was a great class and I look forward to future classes with Taylor.
