Event Overview

So you have a shiny new (or not so new) DSLR camera, and you love it! But, there's one small problem- you can't seem to get away from that little green button that says "Auto," and your pictures just aren't everything you want them to be. Well, I’m here to help!

Join me for digital photography 101, as we work together to understand the bits and pieces that make up a beautiful digital photograph. I will work with you one-on-one, as well as in a group, to show you how to wrangle all the technical jargon and knowledge into submission, and we will do some hands on shooting and review of your images in class to make sure you have a handle on things. You will leave the class confident and self-assured in your newly found photo-skills, and ready to move on to more advanced techniques.

We’ll start out by taking a “camera walk” as we try out the different manual functions of our cameras, and also do some more formal, indoor photographs with a tripod. We can also experiment to unleash your creativity and explore the great things you can do with your camera!

We can discuss any and all questions about your camera and photography.
We will also discuss things like exposure and focus, so that your pictures come out clear, and slightly more advanced topics such as aperture and shutter speed, to take your photos to the next level. We will also explore basic compositional techniques to make your photos more visually interesting.

Laura Barth Turner is an wonderful teacher. She is very patient and supportive as we learned one thing and went outside to try it out on our DSLR cameras. Then did that over and over for each new feature we were learning about. Excellent class for someone who wants to do more than take photos on automatic. I left feeling I was ready to practice all information and lessons to really use this fancy camera and make it user friendly for myself.
