Used in Egypt as early as the 2nd century AD, Coptic bindings feature chain stitch links across the spine to attach sections of folded paper to a hard cover. In the first session of this class, participants will learn paper tearing and gluing techniques to create a block of pages and a hard book cover. In the second session of this class, participants will bring the prepared book parts together using the coptic stitching technique. Each participant will leave class with their own Coptic bound book made from upcycled materials. Participants are welcome to bring their own decorative paper to the first class to personalize their covers.
Please note, this two-day workshop takes place on Tuesdays, June 6 and June 13 from 6:30pm – 8:30pm each session.
