Event Overview

Make an everlasting flower from stained glass in my home studio in Logan Square.

I will provide all supplies and materials for you to create a flower or even a cactus from stained glass. These can be incorporated into a vase or pot and look beautiful for years. You are not limited to making flowers or cacti, you can make a wide assortment of suncatchers.

Learn simple glass cutting techniques to shape your piece from a wide assortment of stained glass colors. You will also learn to copper foil and solder your piece. I will help you along the way to ensure that you take home at least one completed project.

All supplies and materials are included.

Norma D Rios-Sierra received her Bachelor of Art History from Columbia College Chicago in 2009. She has lived in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, San Diego, California and most recently McAllen, Texas. She was first introduced to stained glass art while working as a translator at a stained glass factory in Mexico. Her work consists mostly of stained glass mosaic featuring bold images inspired by iconic Mexican imagery, textiles and embroidery.

Norma is a fantastic teacher as always, and she has a great eye for design. Her teaching style is patient and guiding, but she also lets you be independent as you learn through your own trial and errors. Her love for glass is truly inspiring. Can't wait to take another class!

We had such a great time making stained glass cacti- we learned so much and were pleasantly surprised at how much we did in one class. Norma is a great teacher with a refreshing, laid back style. Her studio is quirky and fun- we can't wait to go back!

Had a 'mom and daughter' day and it could not have been more perfect! We had so much fun and Norma was AWESOME! She is fun, funny, hands on, accommodating, made the class an easy learning experience for us novices. Very comfortable environment-I can't wait to sign up for my next class with her. I HIGHLY recommend folks!

I had such a blast in this class; I'd never worked with stained glass, and Norma was there to guide me through the whole process. She was an amazing instructor: hands-on, helpful, and an all-around fabulous person. I will definitely be back to take another course with her!

The Stained Glass Flowers & Cacti class was so fun! We started practicing the basics right from the start, and then worked on our projects the rest of the time. Three hours totally flew by! Norma is knowledgeable, helpful, and overall cool to hangout with, and it was so sweet that she had food for us to snack on. There were only 3 students in this class, so we got tons of attention whenever we needed help. Definitely recommend!

I really enjoyed this class. Norma started us out with some practice cuts, and then set us loose on a lovely variety of colored glass. She was excellent at helping everyone choose a design that would work for them and guiding us through the steps. She's encouraging, kind, and explains everything very well. Plus I'm delighted with the sun-catcher I made.

Such a fun, encouraging and laid back environment. Norma made practicing a breeze and broke down goals into components that were easy to achieve. An excellent stained glass class for beginners and novices.

Anytime someone is willing to open their home to share their passion with strangers, they should be commended. Norma is a gracious host as well as a gifted teacher. I've done multiple classes with her because I loved the experience. There have been full classes and times with just a few people but she always gives personal feedback and instruction. I have been able to grow in my ability and I have found inspiration to keep dabbling.
If you are wanting to try a new art, glass is a wonderful option. If you are feeling anxious about making a perfect piece, go in with the realization that you are there for a fun experience and relax knowing that every project I've seen leave her door was a good one. :)

Norma was so informative and helpful! She kept the class size small (5 students only) so that she could assist us at each turn of the process. It was really neat to learn how to solder, and I would definitely recommend this class to anyone interested in the art of glass!

Norma was a great teacher and I highly recommend this workshop! She was very helpful, knowledgeable, and encouraging. I look forward to seeing what other types of classes she offers. This was just enough to make a great piece and spark an intrest to make more!

Norma was great--she gave us freedom to do what we wanted (cacti or otherwise) and helped us with ideas. I wish I had spent some time thinking more before the class so I didn't waste time trying to draw a design. She had some beautiful glass available and gave us time to practice cutting on cheap glass before moving to the special glass. She offered us water and snacks while we worked and there was ample workspace for each of us. The cactus I made turned out great. Thanks!
