Mindfulness is the core skill that centers around the ability to be fully present in the current moment, increases awareness of our bodies and emotions, and provides the tools for greater insight into the how our minds work. Developing mindfulness has been shown to increase empathy and compassion, curb stress, boost working memory, increase mental focus, and reduce someone’s emotional reactivity. In this class, participants get a basic introduction to Mindfulness Meditation and how it can be used to increase emotional intelligence.

This is an introduction to the basic principles of mindfulness meditation and participants will be practicing these techniques in the class. There is a longer 5 week class that goes into each of the areas presented in this class in much greater depth for a stronger understanding of the practice.

Cancellation Policy
With over 15 years of experience in adult education, Filtod Walker is a master teacher whose courses and individual workshops focus on educational leadership, new teacher training, communication, presentation, mindfulness, and emotional intelligence skills. He has been a Vipassana (Insight) meditation practitioner since 1997 and brings a strong mindfulness background into his work.
Filtod has spoken at conferences on mindfulness, emotional intelligence, stress management, cognitive distortions, instructional design, employee/volunteer correction, understanding cultural awareness, and learned helplessness.
