Event Overview

An excellent follow up to my Mold Making Techniques: Lifecasting Class, but also a grreat stand alone class to learn the fundamentals of mold-making through plaster and algenate life casts. Students will be able to take flexible algentate molds from their bellies as keepsakes of their pregnancies and create life-like plaster castings from these molds that can be painted and decorated to become works of art. This class is perfect for couples, but is possible to take this type of mold yourself. That said, if you would like your hands to appear in the casting, it is advisable to bring someone to assist you. Also, two women can take turns helping one another if you have a friend who would like to take the class. Partners and friends who come to help but who are not making casts of themselves do not need to purchase a ticket.

Objectives
1) Learn principles of basic mold making and plaster/algenate mixing techniques
2) Produce a finished life-casts to take home.
3) Learn painting, staining, and sealing techniques for plaster.
4) Increase knowledge of 3-dimensional/sculptural composition
5) Develop 3D spatial problem solving skills through the execution of ideas.
6) Have fun!!!

What to Bring

1) Clothes that can be destroyed/apron/smock

Jesse Berlin

Jesse Berlin has been a professional sculptor and sculpture teacher since 2013. He has taught college level sculpture course, k-8 art classes, and given private lessons. Jesse first began making molds and life-casting in middle school, and has spent the 20 years since becoming a master mold maker. He also spent two years making facial prosthetics for veterans using the same techniques covered in this class. Much of his current artwork relies heavily on advanced silicone and polyurethane molds which he uses to create incredibly intricate and lifelike sculptures, featuring human and animal anatomy.
