Event Overview

Fire is transformative. For thousands of years humans have used fire to manipulate and shape glass into beautiful works of art, such as beadwork. ArtReach is offering students of all levels (beginner to expert) the opportunity to experience this powerful, ancient art practice firsthand and, in the spirit of Mother's Day, jazz up mom's jewelry at the same time!

Under the careful guidance of an experienced and talented glass artist, students will use gas torches to heat and shape rods of glass into beautiful glass beads, a technique known as lampworking, or flameworking. This would be a great workshop to bring mom to - or come on your own to make some beads for her!

In a one-hour time slot, each student will be able to make about 4 beads, which will need to be picked up 3 days later. The week of the workshop, students will be notified which one-hour time slot between 7:30 and 10:30 that they will have.

Due to the nature of the tools and materials used, this class is appropriate for students ages 10 and older. All materials and safety equipment will be provided. The first floor, on which ArtReach’s classes take place, and restrooms are wheelchair accessible.
