Indoor Gardening Workshop: Plants without Dirt
TOP RATED
70 Have Dabbled
Fitness & Wellness
Think outside the pot! In the often teeny Chicago apartments we live in, it truly is possible to create airiness with plants without having a mess of dirt.
In this class, Dabblers will explore the fascinating world of epiphytic plants – orchids, bromeliads, and many others – that grow without soil. You'll learn how to grow your own epiphytes, and mount a plant to take home with you.

Seth Harper
Seth Harper received his horticulture education at West Virginia University. He spent five years tending the indoor tropical rainforest at the National Aquarium in Baltimore before coming to Chicago. He currently works at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, growing everything from garden vegetables to exotic greenhouse plants.
Had a great time. Seth is super knowledgable about all things plants. He gave a very informative talk to start things off, them demonstrated how to mount and care for plants and then let us all give it a try. You get a plant to take home and get to visit the peggy notebaert museum - what could be better!

The class was great! We learned about "air plants" and how they grow in the wild. The teacher was very knowledgeable and also taught us how to mount the plants on cork and take them home to care for on our own. Very fun and interactive!

It was ok - the instructor is a really nice guy and I loved the plant I took home. It lacked the kind of interaction a class should have, however, so I have some suggestions I've sent to the instructor that should help liven it up a bit.
