Event Overview

Ever wonder what the buzz is all about with blogging?

Celebrities, scientists, business owners, scholars, and everyone in between is hopping on the blogging bandwagon. Online content isn't just digital journaling anymore -- it's the key to creating your own virtual brand, whether it's in growing and harnessing community, representing your company or profession, or sharing a new voice with the world.

Our "blogging basics" series will cover four pertinent topics in blogging today. The class is targeted towards new bloggers or people in the very early stages of creating a blog, and will discuss basic topics such as blog types and how to create your first blog post, as well as more intermediate topics like social media and community management. We will even touch the ever-popular topic of monetization and how to bring a little extra cash with your blog.

Session 1 (Tuesday, 11/4): Setting up your blog: Platforms, layouts and what you need to know to start

Session 2 (11/11): Creating content and writing a post

Session 3 (11/18): Personal branding and social media

Session 4 (12/2 -- skipping Thanksgiving): Monetization and outreach

The key to great blogging is practice, so students will be expected to come to the class with their laptops and one new article per week. They'll leave this class series with the start of a great blog and a basic understanding of blogging elements and techniques. Don't start a blog without attending this class first!
